Pediatric dentistry includes all phases of oral health care for growing children. It is the practice and research of preventive oral care in children from birth through puberty. A Paediatric Dentist can perform various type of procedures on a child, depending on his/her needs and medical past.
It is recommended that children should visit a dentist for regular exams and teeth cleanings a minimum of twice a year (every six months), starting from six months of a baby’s first tooth eruption and 1 year.
During a child’s visitation to the clinic, a pediatric dental exam and teeth cleaning should be performed on the child to help reduce disease chances and keep the mouth and teeth healthy throughout their lifetime.
Extractions: There are cases where the primary teeth become over-retained (which is the loosening and tightening of the teeth back into the gums), preventing the growth of permanent teeth.
Mouthguards: Mouthguards help preserve the teeth and gums from injury, especially if your child plays sports. However, selecting the right mouthguard is crucial. A good mouthguard must be tear-resistant, comfortable and doesn’t obstruct breathing.
